If you want to join a tour or event, or book Kath for your own event, here is some helpful information. Anything not covered here, please get in touch through the contact page.
Isn't it just for kids or tourists?
Oh no, the rudest, nastiest and funniest parts of stories and real history are perfect for adult audiences, and although tours are aimed at a child friendly age 6+ (unless stated otherwise), my tales are tailored for the audience's needs and mood. You'll be surprised if you're local to Nottingham to discover the number of interesting and important events which have occurred in the area, but that you've never heard about. There's a lot to learn and enjoy from a good storyteller, especially for adults who remember a time when there were stories for entertainment, rather than computer games.
Does the weather affect things?
If it's raining, you'll get wet. The shows and tours carry on through almost any weather, because large parts of them take place inside, or can be adapted to spend longer under cover. Dress sensibly, and the tour will go on! Events can vary, as they may be indoors, or able to move indoors in the event of bad weather.
Is there good access on your events?
Some events require you to walk up and down quite a few stairs, and over uneven surfaces. There are handrails when we go into caves, but not throughout, so for those who need a little more support, a sturdy friend should do the trick. Tours and shows aren't conducted at a fast pace, and there is some seating available, but much of the tour is standing.
If you have difficulty with stairs or uneven floors, please contact prior to booking for advice about suitability for each event.
What kind of tales does Kath tell?
It depends on the tour or event, or your needs if you're booking a special event, but I can cover: Gory History • Traditional folk and fairy tales • Traditional or Subverted fairy tales • Myths and Legends • Seasonal Stories • Nottingham History • Ghost stories (real and fictional) • Original stories • Humorous • Environmental Awareness • Real Experiences from Working in Historic Venues • Comic Poems and Prose
Where and when does Kath do events? Everywhere!
Schools • Museums • Pubs • After Dinner speaking • Literacy Celebrations • Care and Rest Homes • Libraries • Festivals • Weddings • Historic Venues • Social clubs • Boys and Girls Clubs • Business Events and so much more!
What do you get from Kath if you book your own event?
You get from me a professional service which carries full Public Liability Insurance.
We'll work together before the event to discuss and plan the type of activity I can best provide for you. I'll plan and prepare beforehand, arrive promptly, get set up as quickly as possible, work within the time frame agreed, be pleasant and positive to your group (unless you want me to be a nasty character throughout!) and provide the activity we have agreed. After the event I can depart, or stay to answer questions and chat with your guests, either in character or as myself. My biggest skill is adaptability, so each event is tailored to that group at that time.
Can you cater for special needs?
With many years of experience I have led tours and planned and run events for many different abilities, and with a little warning can I adapt existing tours and events for most needs. If you have special requests, I can arrange tours or events specially for you, for example bringing a visually impaired group to experience some of the caste caves, or visiting a special needs school to run a session. Events can also be conducted with your own BSL translator, or language translator if we make suitable arrangements beforehand.
What does Kath need from you if you book your own event?
Think about what capacity would you like to hire me in, or we can discuss what I feel would best fit your needs. You need to consider details such as:

What does Kath need from you if you book your own event?
Think about what capacity would you like to hire me in, or we can discuss what I feel would best fit your needs. You need to consider details such as:
- The type of event: Tour in Nottingham, storytelling session, social group talk, drop in event...
- Type of venue: Caves, large school hall, your back garden, stall at a festival, small historical room...
- Age range: Does the material need to be adapted for different ages?
- Group size: A set group size, multiple smaller sessions, estimated numbers for a drop in event...
- Any specific interests: Robin Hood, Witches, Nottingham history, the medieval ages...
- If it is a seasonal event :Christmas themed, Halloween.
- Length of time you'd like me to spend with you: A set single session, through to a whole day or evening.
- Private events start from only £30, and if you have a budget in mind I can tailor up and down depending on your budget, perhaps adapting an existing event to a shorter session, to help keep your costs down.
